Mountain Aid
inherits the mantle of Boots Across Scotland which, until 2008,
was a charitable trust fund supporting injured hillgoers and promoting mountain
safety. Like 'Boots', one of the principal objectives of Mountain Aid is
the support of mountain rescue.
The Order of St John
has funded projects to develop mountain rescue base
facilities and to provide vehicles. "The Mission of the Order of St. John is
to prevent and relieve sickness and injury and to act to enhance the health
and well-being of people of all races and creeds anywhere in the world."
